CASA LINDA BED & BREAKFAST
For those who might want a less urban experience, Casa Linda Bed and Breakfast, the home of ex-pat Linda Hanna, offers a delightful alternative to staying in the center of Oaxaca. It is located in the nearby town of Huayapam, and is easily reachable by car or bus. In fact, the bus from Oaxaca stops right at the end of Linda’s driveway. Walk up the driveway, past the friendly goats (or are they sheep?), and you find yourself inside a lovely walled garden surrounded by fruit trees. Linda has furnished her house with carefully selected pieces of folk art, including pottery, masks, useful and decorative ceramics, tinware, paintings, furniture, rugs, and textiles. Each piece has been placed in just the right spot, and each piece serves to highlight the many facets of Mexico’s folk art traditions. We've been in many houses and lodgings that display Mexican arts and crafts. Linda's house is a work of art.

The spotlessly clean house has two guest rooms, each with its own bathroom. A full breakfast is served on the patio. There is a separate small and cozy building which can be used for yoga or meditation, and at the appropriate time of year is decorated for Day of the Dead or Nacimiento observances. Linda is also a very knowledgeable and competent guide. With her, we've had the pleasure of visiting the homes of artisans whom we never would have found, much less have been invited into their homes, without Linda. For a reasonable additional cost, Linda offers tours to her guests (or others) who are interested in visiting the workshops and meeting the artists whose work graces her home. Spending time in Linda’s house and in her company provides a glimpse into a part of Oaxacan life that only a fortunate few get to experience.
